2012

Goals for 2012:
  1. Upgrade my final Math Course to meet post secondary requirements
  2. Decide what it is I'm going to go to post secondary for
  3. Budget and plan for a large trip in 2013
2012 is going to be a "planning and preparing" year for me. With 2 destination weddings in the forecast, we won't be travelling abroad this year so I need to put my head down and work hard to put money in the bank for next year. I also need to get my education figured out, and start taking steps in the right direction in regards to my future career.

As for my business, my goals are to create more awareness of my products and Marula Oil, have more of a presence on Etsy, and double my sales from 2011.

They say if you write down your goals you are more likely to see them through, so here they are! :)

The Marula Tree Soap Co.'s 2011

Wow, almost a year ago I wrote this blog entry:

"I registered for my etsy shop the other night which can be found here. I guess I can't really call it a shop yet since I don't have any items listed or anything. It's a slow and steady process while I learn the ropes of making and selling my soaps. Each one is a total experiment right now - some good, some bad and some very, very bad. My boyfriend's bathtub is overrun with ugly bars of soap right now."

I had no idea that by the end of the year I'd have sold over a thousand bars of soap, have multiple wholesale accounts and have shipped my products internationally. I also didn't know that I'd be also selling bath bombs, perfume, lip balm and body butter. I do know that my family and friends thought I was crazy for the first few months, so I'm pretty happy with how things turned out.

My year in numbers:

Total bars of soap sold: 1047
Total bath bombs sold: 380
Total lip balms sold: 144
Total solid perfumes sold: 24
Total body butters sold: 13

I don't mind sharing these numbers as they are something that I'm proud of, and make all the late nights and early mornings filling orders worth it. What started as a hobbie has turned into something that has grown from nothing, to actually putting money in my pocket. It's crazy to think that I started out handwriting my labels, with a small drawer filled with molds and fragrance oil, to professional glossy labels, and half a kitchen full of supplies!

2011 was a busy and great year for me, but I'm definitely looking to get more out of 2012.
I hope everyone has a safe and happy new years, and I'll be starting off the year by launching a new line of products!
Stay tuned!

Festive Shop!

And now the shops in the spirit too!

I'm Alive!

November has proved to be an amazing month for The Marula Tree Soap Co. which is why you haven't heard from me in awhile! The past few weeks have been really exciting, with new wholesale clients, new customers and a good run of almost daily sales on etsy. With two jobs and this business, I'm definitely good at taking on way too much, but it's been really fun. The hard part is keeping up with all this social media that we are expected to participate in!

I did have a chance to come up with a few new products:

All Spice Sea Salt Soap

Chocolate Espresso Bath Bomb

Cranberry Fig Bath Bomb

Morrocan Mint Bath Bomb

Black Raspberry Vanilla Gift Set

With the house to myself and the skies looking a bit gray I'm going to have a little "me" time and then put up our little christmas tree. I really can't believe it's Dec 3rd already, and only just over a month before I get to watch one of my best friends get married in beautiful Punta Cana. What a way to end off a busy Christmas season. :)

Enjoy your weekend!
